My Story

Roots in art

I was born and raised in Mexico, where I was surrounded by art and crafts from an early age. While drawing and painting were part of my everyday life, my love for wood as a medium was born in childhood when I used to visit my cousin's wood shop. The colonial and baroque style architecture in my hometown sparked my desire to one day create sculptural work.

Early Inspiration and Exploration

My natural curiosity about how things are built and how mechanisms work led me to explore different jobs such as construction, auto mechanics, and body shop work. In my mid-twenties, I began carving sculptural bowls and vessels using a limited number of handheld power tools. Although the results were somewhat satisfactory, the process was hard on my body and time-consuming. This eventually led me to pursue woodturning as a more efficient way to remove wood and lay the foundation for the sculptural work I currently create.

In July 2019, I received a Professional Outreach Program Excellence Award at the Symposium organized by the American Association of Woodturners (AAW). My work was featured in the AAW journal in August and October 2019. In 2020, I was invited to participate in the Professional Outreach Program Exhibition, where I presented a sculpture with my own interpretation of Quetzalcoatl.

In recent years, I have been invited to demonstrate at local woodturning clubs and teach in woodworking schools. I also provide online demonstrations worldwide, sharing my techniques and passion for woodturning with a global audience.

Teaching

Since 2018, I have participated in multiple fine art shows, receiving several awards, including Outstanding Achievement, Best of Category, and Best of Show. My work now resides in major private collections across the US and Europe.

Gratitude and Inspiration

Reflecting on my journey from Mexico to the art galleries across Europe and the US fills me with deep gratitude. I am thankful for every chance I've had to share my love for woodturning, from local workshops to worldwide online demonstrations. Each award and recognition is a tribute not only to my efforts but to the cultures, mentors, and friends who have influenced my artistic journey. Inspired by all the interactions and achievements, I look forward to continuing my exploration of wood art, hoping to bring joy and inspiration to everyone who sees my work.
